CONVERSATIONALIST

Privacy Policy

Last updated August 8, 2026

Conversationalist helps people communicate across languages. This policy explains how the app and its supporting service handle information when you use voice translation, message understanding, written replies, Duo contacts, and Duo conversations.

Information you provide

When you create a Duo profile, we store an anonymous profile identifier, your chosen name, optional avatar, and preferred or device language. When you connect with a Duo contact, we store the connection and invitation information needed to make that connection work. Messages, their translations, and any images or short videos sent in a Duo conversation are stored on the Conversationalist service so they can appear in the conversation for both connected people.

When you ask Conversationalist to translate, understand, or help express text, we process the text you submit. If you choose a photo or screenshot for message understanding, we process that image. If you use voice translation, the recording is sent for transcription. The app may receive generated speech audio when you ask it to speak a translation.

How information is used

We use this information only to provide the requested translation, explanation, reply assistance, contact connection, message delivery, and call setup. We do not sell personal information or use messages, recordings, images, or videos for advertising.

Voice and video calls use direct peer-to-peer WebRTC media where a connection can be established. Conversationalist does not record or store call media. Our service handles call-setup signals and may handle the translation turn that you explicitly submit.

Service providers

Conversationalist sends the content needed to perform AI-powered transcription, translation, message understanding, reply assistance, and speech generation to OpenAI, our AI service provider. OpenAI processes that content under its own terms and privacy practices. We use only the minimum content needed for the request.

Retention

Profile, contact, invitation, and Duo message data remain in our database until the associated profile or conversation is deleted. Audio submitted for transcription is processed in memory and is not saved by the Conversationalist service after the transcription request finishes. Operational usage aggregates, such as endpoint, response status, and timing, do not contain message bodies, profile identifiers, IP addresses, or tokens and are retained for up to 90 days.

Your choices and deletion

You can control the name, avatar, and language shown on your Duo profile. You may request deletion of your profile and associated Conversationalist data by contacting conversationalistduo@gmail.com. Before public release, Conversationalist will also provide an in-app profile-deletion control.

Security

We use reasonable technical measures intended to protect information in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Conversationalist is not directed to children. Do not use the app if you are under the minimum age required to consent to data processing where you live.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as Conversationalist changes. The current version will be posted at this address. For privacy questions, contact conversationalistduo@gmail.com.
